After the release of Eric's Geffen album, Eric returned to the studio to record a duet with Louise Mandrell on "As Long As We Got Each Other."

“I remember Louise wanted to do it,” says Eric. “Her husband called and said, ‘C’mon down to Nashville, stay with us and we’ll go into the studio and knock this one out.’ So we did. Somebody had gotten wind of the fact that we were about to release it and contacted B.J. Thomas, who had originally sung the song for the Growing Pains TV show theme. They rushed their release out, and to make a long story short, we held ours back because we didn’t want to compete with another one.”

Nonetheless, Louise and Eric's version of "As Long As We Got Each Other" made the U.S. country charts despite only promotional copies being issued
