When Eric played a ten-day sold-out concert tour of Japan in 1980, he had lots of firepower with him: a group of hand-picked musicians including Cooker Lopresti on bass, Duane Hitchings on keyboards, Ross Salamon on drums and the GREAT Davey Johnstone from Elton John's band on lead guitar.
The tour made stops in Yokohama, Osaka, Sapporo and Tokyo. Original Raspberries roadie Kevin Dugan went along as tour manager. "We arrived at Narita airport and it was like Beatlemania," recvalled Kevin. "It was amazing! Eric was huge in Japan. They love him!"
One of the band's performances was taped and then broadcast on Japanese television on February 10, 1980. Check out this rare clip of Eric and the band ripping through "The Inside Story" from his Tonight You're Mine album. I love watching his interaction with guitarist Davey Johnstone. I only wish I were there to see it live!
