In the summer of 1968, Cyrus Erie realized a dream by opening for The Who at Musicarnival. "We heard that the Who had toured with the Small Faces," says Eric. "So at Musicarnival, we did a set that was heavy on Small Faces songs. We thought that they would be backstage in the dressing room listening and saying, 'God, these guys are fucking great! We should take them on tour with us!' Of course, not only were they not listening to us, they probably didn't even get there until our set was just about over.
"I don't think anyone was there to see us. The audience came to see The Who and I don't blame them, but we were good. Then the Who came on and smashed all of their equipment including some of ours. Still, it was so damned exciting to open for them that day. I still remember the date—July 14, 1968—it's etched in my memory forever. That we were going to be in the same room with them, let alone open for them, was incredibly exciting. After we played, we made sure to watch their set from the audience."
In this ULTRA-RARE silent home movie footage we get to see Eric, Marty Murphy, Bob McBride, Michael McBride and Wally Bryson on stage performing as Cyrus Erie. Then the magic continues as the unknown Cleveland music fan continued his historic film by capturing a small portion of The Who's set. Audio has been added to the film to enhance it's enjoyment, but this is originally a silent home movie. Special thanks to Brian Panek who discovered the footage—It's extremely RARE and has never been seen before!
