When Raspberries appeared for the second time on Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert, they opened with a beautiful slow ballad version of "Let’s Pretend," which segued into "Starting Over." Eric omitted the obscenity in the opening lyric—instead choosing to sing an unintelligible adjective.
"The Kirshner show was taped in Long Beach, California," says roadie Kevin Dugan. "We were scheduled to go on last—after T. Rex with Marc Bolan and REO Speedwagon. Marc Bolan kept messing up, so they had to keep reshooting. It wore on all day long. When Raspberries finally took the stage, most of the audience had already gone home. There was just a small group of people left. It was ridiculous. They had to carefully pick and choose camera shots to make it look like we were playing to a full audience. Michael McBride kept breaking the snares on his drums during the show. He was down to his last set of snares and when they snapped, I ended up sitting underneath his drum set, holding the snares up against the drum itself until they finished their last song."
Whether it was frustration over the laborious TV shoot, or whether it was just good old fashioned rock'n roll, when Wally Bryson took center stage and sang "Party's Over," unlike Eric, he didn't censor his lyrics. Perhaps that's why it was cut from the television broadcast. It eventually showed up on The Old Grey Whistle Test in the U.K., hosted by "whispering" Bob Harris.
